The NOW HEAR THIS! office has a staffing change to announce. Since our founding in 2005, NHT! was led by Program Manager Mark Laliberte. Mark's contribution has been crucial to NHT!’s growth as he helped the program develop from a handful of writer-led workshops to the city-wide success of the S.W.A.T. Program, the development of the HEAR/HEAR Reading Series and the ongoing expansion of the WRITE ON! Workshops. Mark also led the way in his design of our student anthologies, including the upcoming Capybara.
Mark continues to be involved in the arts through his own poetry and visual art, curatorial work, and his position as Managing Editor at Carousel Magazine. We wish Mark all the best!
Even though we’re sad to see Mark go, the NHT! office is excited to have Elizabeth Scott on board! Elizabeth began work at Descant / NHT! in January of this year and will fill the Managing Editor chair at Descant as well as working as NHT! Program Manager.
“I am so happy to be a part of this amazing organization that fulfills such a vital role within the literary and arts community in Canada,” Elizabeth says. “I intend to do all I can to help both Descant and NOW HEAR THIS! grow and evolve.”
Prior to her new position, Elizabeth worked freelance for several years as a writer/editor with clients ranging from globeandmail.com, Cottage Life magazine to Crosscurrents: The Journal of Addiction and Mental Health. In the mid-90s, Elizabeth founded Woman newsmagazine, a resource for Canadian women. Consequently, in addition to her writing/editing and publishing experience, she brings an entrepreneurial spirit to Descant. Twice she was nominated for Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year.
Elizabeth is also pleased to share that she is a newlywed, having married David on June 11, 2010. Her newly expanded family, which includes her two sons, Benjamin and Byron, lives in Cabbagetown, which is a healthy walk from Descant’s George Brown House offices.
Elizabeth welcomes feedback from readers and anyone from the Descant/NHT! community with news and/or information to share: managingeditor@descant.ca.
