The Beautiful Barracuda Launch!

As you may already know, NOW HEAR THIS! was proud to launch our fantastic anthology, The Barracuda, into the world last Wednesday. The Barracuda is full of writing by participants from the 2009 S.W.A.T. Program — and it's a pretty gorgeous book, too (if we do say so ourselves!).

If you haven't seen a copy of The Barracuda yet, head out to your favourite bookstore or magazine stand and check to see if they've got one in stock! Or, better yet, you can buy one at the Descant online store! (Isn't technology amazing?)

This Wednesday night you have a chance to see a battery of barracudas at The Gardiner Museum in Toronto — well beyond their natural habitat.

In fact, NOW HEAR THIS! is launching hundreds of copies of The Barracuda (our second anthology of writing produced by student participants in the S.W.A.T. program) into the wild to be enjoyed by all you voracious readers roaming our great city. So why don't you join us and see what a Barracuda looks like up close?

What: NOW HEAR THIS! launches The Barracuda: an anthology of student writing.
Where: The Gardiner Museum, 3rd floor / 111 Queen's Park / Subway Station: Museum
Who: There will be readings by student contributors Erick Thibeault Orsi, Michael Rodriguez, Ofelia Scarcelli and Carleen Veloso as well as 2009 writers-in-residence Desi Di Nardo and Colin Frizzell!

Not to mention fantastic food, discounted books, a beautiful view of Toronto and great friends of NHT!. All this and it's a FREE EVENT! So come on out to celebrate with us and bring your friends and family — it's going to be a great night!

This summer, NHT! is producing its second annual publication of student writing. The 2008 Now Hear This! Zine Series consists of twelve zines (i.e. mini-magazines), one for each school that participated in S.W.A.T. this year. The publication's expected completion date is September, 2008. The zines will be available for purchase on our website: nowhearthis.ca in the fall. In the meantime, some of the incredible work from the zines is available below. Enjoy!
